Idlewild is an independent bookstore specializing in travel and international literature. We carry guidebooks, novels and non-fiction from more than 100 countries and all 50 states, all shelved together by place. We carry a range of popular and hard-to-find guidebooks to suit the needs and tastes of every traveler and budget, but we also believe that a novel or a work of non-fiction can be just as valuable a key to a place as any guidebook — and our well-read, well-traveled staff is happy to make recommendations for any traveler, book lover, or gift giver.

Idlewild is located in a beautiful, mezzanine-level space overlooking 19th Street, just two blocks fromManhattan’s Union Square and within walking distance of most major NYC subway lines. The store’s beautiful pine shelves, high ceilings and big windows, and ample seating make it a pleasant place to browse, shop and explore.
